Parents should be told if kids want to change gender identity at school, N.J. district says

A school district in Monmouth County is considering amending its policy on transgender students to require that parents be notified of any changes in their child’s gender identity at school.

The Marlboro Township Board of Education proposed the revised policy at its meeting last week. The school board is expected to vote to adopt the policy at a board meeting next month or in July.

“Because Marlboro Public School District is a pre-K-8 district with no high school, the board believes that greater parental involvement is required because of the age and maturity level of its student-body,” the proposed revised policy says.
